Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman, born May 25 1994 she is an American retired artistic gymnast. She was two-time Olympian. She was the American women's Olympic gymnastics team captain for both the 2012 and 2016 "Fierce Five" U.S. teams. She won a team gold medal during the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Gabby Douglas and Raisman are the only Americans to have two consecutive gold medals at this competition. Raisman also took silver in the individual all around and floor exercise. She is the third-most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history, just behind Shannon Miller and Simone Biles who have won six Olympic medals.Raisman was also part of the gold-winning American teams at the 2011 and 2015 World Championships, and the bronze medalist in the world championships on floor exercise in the year 2011. She has also been an Olympic champion twice on the floor exercise (2012 in 2012 and in 2015) as well as the 2012 champion of the national team on balance beam and a five-time medalist in the all-around section at the national championships (silver in 2016, bronze in 2012, 2011, and 2012, and in 2015). In 2013 she was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was born on May 25, 1994 in the Boston suburb of Needham, Massachusetts, to Lynn (nee Faber), the former high school gymnast as well as Rick Raisman. She has three younger siblings, Madison, Chloe and Brett. Raisman is Jewish and states that "I enjoy being able to not only represent the U.S.A but also the Jewish Community everywhere." "Raisman began gymnastics when she was just 18 months old. She attributes her early love of gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", a U.S. women's gymnastics team which took home a gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. She trained at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing until Level 8. Then she joined Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club with coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman graduated Needham High School, 2012 after completing her senior year through online classes and training for the Olympics.
